Work in situ, 2010

Thursday 1 September 2016

Went to Savill Gardens today and took two pieces of work for their sculpture exhibition.

'Fallen'

'Beside Themselves'

Part of a series of work where I am using two pieces to relate to each other in interesting ways depending on  how and where they are placed.

The Gardens as usual were beautiful. I walked passed borders jam packed with the most gorgeous
flowers - a riot of yellow, orange and all related colours. I stood on the wooden bridge and watched lovely fat ducks paddling and flitting across the water.  I could have stayed there all day. It is a gentle place and would soon dissipate any gloomy thoughts.

While unpacking a piece of work from storage today I came across the most beautiful little toad. I thought he was an old dead leaf until I tried to brush him away which he seemed to resent and spread out all his legs to make himself look bigger.  I think he was a bit dazed and very slowly tried to make his way out of my 'pot'.

So slow in fact I could take these lovely pictures of him peering over the side.

And then he was gone.  Hopefully to make his home in my garden.

The piece of work where I found him will now be forever known as 'the toad pot'.
Here it is:
Delivered three pieces of work to Avebury Manor Gardens today.  A new venue for me and really lovely. Beautiful house dating back to goodness knows when and the surrounding countryside is gorgeous.

I felt I had stepped back in time.
Had a walk round 'the stones' quite magical on an exceptionally warm summers day.

The exhibition starts on Friday the 27th until the 25th September.
Delivered work to Wisley last Thursday for their annual sculpture exhibition which continues until the 25th September.  Exhibiting three pieces this year. I thought 'Caught' was a little bit overwhelmed by Wisley but never mind. Gardens as beautiful as ever.

Tuesday 3 May 2016

Well underway with 2016.
Broke wrist at end of January!
Could not drive, play tennis etc etc and definitely no work.
What a bummer. No photographs!

Nevertheless three exhibitions already underway:
1. Sculpture at Kingham Lodge until end of May (part of Oxfordshire Artwork)
2. Surrey Hills Sculpture Garden at Birtley House until June 5th.
3. Borde Hill Gardens, Haywards Heath until end of September.
Four more yet to come.
Fortunately I had all the work for these exhibitions ready to go.  Hopefully I will be back on track shortly. These things take longer than expected.

Tuesday 2 February 2016

Completely lost track of time. I can't really remember when I had my first website but thought my old one looked rather formal so decided to update. New one much more jolly and I can change  the images etc., myself. Let's just hope that I remember to do so.
Anyway, thought it would be a good idea to take this opportunity to present some new pieces I have been designing in the last few months. I think I mentioned that I rather liked the idea of putting pieces together so they interlinked and related to each other telling a different story with each arrangement.

These rather strange rhythmic forms are reminiscent of fallen leaves or open pods. They can be placed singularly or together, on their sides or even upside down. Up to me.

These forms are like discarded husks. Quite aggressive in shape and outline.  They are a little smaller than my usual structures so I had more control over the final outcome:

Just beginning to plan this year's exhibition programme. Let's hope the weather is a little kinder. All I remember of last year was a lot of rain and very high winds. It can't be that again can it?
Oh well gardens seem to look good regardless.
